On Wednesday, October 9, 2019 Gordon Jude Celestine, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 75 at his home surrounded by friends and family.

Gordon was born on September 24, 1944 in St. Paul’s in the Parish of Saint George’s, Grenada to Louisa Lord and Patrick Celestine. He served proudly in the U.S. Army from March 1970 to October 1971 and graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College in 1977. On December 27, 1985, he married Jean Alice Holas. Together, they raised two children, son Geoffrey and daughter Carol-Anne.

Gordon had a passion for reading, gardening and the outdoors. He could always be found riding his two speeder around town and sharing the fresh vegetables he grew every fall in his backyard. He had a deep thirst for knowledge and he would regularly surprise those who knew him with the breadth and depth of his intelligence. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious laugh, and his strength.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father Patrick Celestine, his mother Louisa Lord, and his son Eugene Celestine. He left to cherish his memory his wife Jean; his stepmother Cynthia "Baby Lou" Celestine; his two children Geoffrey and Carol-Anne; his sisters Phyllis, Pearl, Jean, Brenda, Maureen, Susan, Paula and Yolande; his brothers Wilfred, David, Fitzroy, Junior, Robert and Edward; his aunt Rita Floyd, several nieces, nephews and a number of devoted friends. 

A viewing will be held on October 19, 2019 at Hempstead Assembly of God Church from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM and the funeral service will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. He will be interred at Greenfield Cemetery at 650 Nassau Road, Uniondale, NY 11553 at 12:30 PM. Flowers may be sent to Hempstead Assembly of God Church, 656 Front Street, Hempstead NY 11550. The repast will be held at Hempstead Assembly of God after the burial.
