UNION GROVE - Gordon R. "Gordy" Johnson, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Gordy was born on March 18, 1939, to Samuel and Lucy (née: Boggs) Johnson. Gordy was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Karcher on September 16, 1961. Gordy was a deputy on the Racine Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1994. He was also retired from the US Army Reserves. He was the former general manager for the Racine Raiders, a baseball coach, football coach and was involved with the Racine Kilties. Gordy was also an avid golfer, farmer, fisherman and pilot. Gordy is survived by his children: Daniel (Kristine) Johnson, Rebecca (Robert) Remster, Jonathan (Wendy) Johnson; grandchildren: Ryan, Joshua, Adam, Rachel (Alex) and Amelia; great-grand- children: Tyler and Alexander; brothers: Archie (Bonnie) Johnson and Buck Johnson; sisters: Elaine Johnson and Vicky (Allan) Young; sister-in- law, Shirley Johnson; special friend Mary Janz; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Gordy was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, James, and brother-in-law, Richard Karcher. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Gordy's caregivers, Dr. Mullane/Aurora Cancer Staff and Robin M./Staff at Vitas Hospice for their compassionate attentiveness to Gordy. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 11:30 until the life celebration begins at 1:30 PM at Gordy's home at 16330 Plank Road, Union Grove, WI 53182.
