Gordon Gordy Rossow1935 - 2014Gordon Gordy Rossow, 78, of Kenosha passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Brookside Care Center with his wife by his side.Gordy was born on Aug. 30, 1935, to Marvin and Ruby Rossow in Aberdeen, S.D. He was educated in the schools of Stratford and Groton, S.D. and was a graduate of Greer Technical Institute of Chicago with a degree in Diesel Automotive Technology. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served in Japan. In Minneapolis he met Judith Ames, they were then married on Nov. 4, 1961, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale of Nashua, Ia. Gordys love of cars led him to opening Gordys Gasport in Minneapolis before a stint at Case Company in Racine. In 1973, Gordy and Judy opened the Copy Center, the first quick print shop in Kenosha and is still located in the Harborside neighborhood. Gordy and Judy shared a love for attending auto races, including the greatest spectacle in racing, the Indianapolis 500. Over the years, he would take his son and daughter to spend Memorial Day with him there. The whole family never misses watching it every year. Gordy was a voracious reader keeping up on current events and studying history and politics. He was active in local politics and a dyed-in-the-wool Republican. His commitment and contribution to the party was acknowledged with the Alvan E. Bovay Award in 1997 and the Cloyd A. Porter Award in 2001. The Copy Center gave Gordy and his family the opportunity to get to know their beloved community of Kenosha. They enjoyed visiting customers businesses especially the local restaurants. Gordy was a regular at Marina Gardens, The Coffee Pot and Franks Diner where he would take his kids to breakfast and return to read and enjoy coffee. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judith Rossow of Kenosha; his children, Mitchell Rossow of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sharon Rossow of Kenosha; a brother, Dennis Rossow of Stratford, S.D. and a sister, Margaret Marten of Roseville, Minn.; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and business associates. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents.A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Kenosha Funeral Services from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday, May 19, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow. Burial at Green Ridge Cemetery will be after the service.The family would like to express their thanks for the care and compassion of Dr. Raymond Knight and the staff of Brookside Care Center.In lieu of flowers, the family is gratefully accepting donations to create a memorial in the Harborside neighborhood.
