Grace BrantleyCHILLICOTHE: Grace Brantley passed away peacefully at National Church Residences on April 8, 2017 at the age of 87 after an extended illness.She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Otis Brantley, son David Brantley (Connie Brantley wife), daughter Susan Hager (Garry Hager husband), grandchildren Jennifer Sleeper, Justin Brantley, Garry Lee Hager, Connie Fazio, foster granddaughter, great grandchildren, Braden Sleeper, Tyler Sleeper, Connor Sleeper, Elise Brantley, Nolan Brantley and Kaydance Hager and Sister-in-law, Ellen Brantley and several nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Edgar Carnes and sister Shirley Kay MacPhaiden.Grace was born on April 3, 1930 in Atlanta Georgia. She graduated from Milan Michigan High School as class salutatorian in 1948. She moved with her family to Chillicothe, Ohio in 1948 where she met her future husband, Otis "Pat" Brantley and was married on January 21, 1949. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, she worked at numerous jobs before going back to school where she received a BS degree in Medical Records Technology. She worked in that capacity at the Veterans Hospital and was subsequently promoted to executive assistant to the director and retired from the VA in 1990.Grace spent much of her retirement years helping others as a volunteer tax preparer and a reading tutor for children. She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for all her adult life and was involved in many church activities including teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, bible study and formed a Sunday school class for young adults (Kings Class). She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. The family would like to thank National Church Residences, Schaefer Building Paint Creek unit and National Church Residences Hospice for their care and compassion.Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 12, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chillicothe. Funeral service will be held at the Tabernacle Baptist Church at 2pm on Thursday, April 13 with Pastor Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
