Grady Williams, Sr.YorkGrady Williams, Sr., 78, passed away on December 29, 2015. He was the husband of Mother Lue Florence Williams (Duncan) of York, Pa. for 55 years.Grady was born on May 11, 1937, in Millen, Ga. (Jenkins County) to the late Jones Williams, Sr. and Mamie Williams (Hurst). He was raised up on a farm for 19 years where the family grew and sold crops of cotton, sugar cane, corn, peanuts, watermelon, and peas. Grady was brought up in the Baptist Church as a child where he served on the junior usher board and sang on the junior choir. He was educated through the Jenkins County public school system where he attended Haverson School until the 7th grade and then Cousins Community School until 9th grade. Right before turning 20 years of age, Grady moved to Savannah, Ga. with his family and worked in a shipyard for a few years. He there meet his wife and they had two small girls before relocating up north to York, Pa. to be closer to his wife's family who had already migrated and settled there. Grady was a hardworking man and had several jobs throughout his working career in York, Pa. He worked for the City of York, the Candy Factory in New Freedom, Pantano Construction, Therma Air (18 years), and finally retired at Wayneco, Inc. after 17 years of service.Grady was known for being a funny man who kept a baseball cap on his head, smile on his face, and people laughing with his jokes. He had a love for the sport of baseball and when he played was known to break bats because of his hard swings. Grady sure could eat and had a love for food, especially KFC and Chinese. But he also had a sweet tooth and would snack on Silver Tips (Hershey Kisses), peppermints, Nutty Buddies, Baby Ruth candy bars, Drumstick ice cream cones, and cashews. He had a thing for Chevy vehicles with his first being a dark green 52' Chevy 2 Door and his last vehicle being a brown 86' Chevy Celebrity 4 Door. Grady got pleasure out of watching television and enjoyed watching Tom & Jerry cartoons, the Spanish, and the Weather Channels. One son, Aubrey Williams; and five siblings, sisters Louise Byers and Ludene Williams, and brothers Walter Williams, Robert Williams, Jones Williams, Jr. preceded Grady in his death. He leaves behind to cherish in his memory besides his wife, five children: three daughters, Annie Collier, Shirlean Santos, and Gail Williams, all of York, Pa., two sons: Grady Williams, Jr. (Marilyn Simmons) of York, Pa. and Ronnie Duncan of Richmond, Va.; a brother, McKinley Williams (Betty) of Savannah, Ga.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends whom he all loved so much.The viewing will be on January 2, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Unity C.O.G.I.C., 121 N. Ridge Ave.,York . The Celebration of Life Services begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Darnell Bowman officiating.Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
