GEORGE, Graham Oates: In Loving Memory of Graham Oates GEORGE who was born on June 3rd, 1933. Graham died March 7, 2017 in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was born at home in Bournemouth, Hampshire, England. Graham was raised, educated and first worked there until May 1949 when he emigrated to Canada to join his eldest sister who was a war bride. He is predeceased by his wife Darlene (nee Cookson) on March 1, 2017; two brothers in England, Peter and Bernard; two sisters Sheila in Canada and Pauline in England and also by his first wife Patricia (nee Armstrong). He is survived by his younger sister Geraldine (Wendy) GRIFFIN of Melbourne, Australia; son David Gordon (Laurie) GEORGE of Beaumont, Alberta; granddaughters Keryl (Cory), Dianne; grandson Bryan and great grandson Aubrey; daughter Kathleen Margaret (Stephen) WILLS of Blind Bay, B.C. and numerous nephews and nieces and their offspring in England, Canada and Australia. Also, Darlene's family; her daughter Cindy (Gene) and their children and grandchildren and son Greg (Cat). After three years as a farm labourer and various other occupations in Ontario (including a Canadian Army Reservist of Highland Light Infantry of Canada) engaged in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on February 7th, 1952 as a British Subject, acquiring Canadian Citizenship in 1954, and served for 37 years, twice in Ottawa, once in the Yukon, twice in Alberta and twice in British Columbia, retiring in April 1989 in Kelowna with the rank of Superintendent after being in charge of Kelowna Detachment for 12 years. After retirement the Georges enjoyed travelling via motorhome, timeshares and cruises. He was a choirboy in England and enjoyed choirs and other music ever since. Community involvement over the years included volunteering with many youth groups, a member over the years of Rotary, Lions and several years on the Board of the Central Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, and most recently as Past President and Executive Committee Member of Branch 69 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Peachland, B.C. His Masonic career commenced at Whitehorse, Yukon in 1955 and continued in Ottawa, Ontario and recently in British Columbia where he was a member of St.George's #41 in Kelowna and Trepanier #83 in Peachland and various other concordant bodies including Shriners of BC/Yukon. He was also a volunteer driver for the Masonic Cancer Patient Car Transportation system. A joint Celebration of Life for both Graham & Darlene GEORGE will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69 in Peachland on Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 AM.
