Greg Shekita Sherrill's Ford Greg Shekita, currently of Sherrill's Ford, NC, 70, died Sunday, November 20, 2016. His illness was short lived and he died of heart failure, surrounded by his wife and 2 daughters. He was born on March 17, 1946 in Blakely, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Coast Guard and graduated from the University of Houston with a Batchelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the majority of his career with IBM, and was a lifelong member of the Society of Plastics Engineers. In 2012 he retired with his wife to the shores of Lake Norman, North Carolina. While he was a workaholic, his free time was consumed with his love of cars. A tireless volunteer for Sports Car Club of America, he spent his many hours officiating at race tracks from coast to coast. He even met Paul Newman at Road Atlanta. Next to cars that go fast, his other avocation was boating, from sailboat racing to power boating and fishing. He also enjoyed teaching safe boating classes to new boating enthusiasts. While always wanting to help other, he helped build Habitat for Humanity houses from Massachusetts to South Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra (Sandi), his two daughters, Melanie and Amy, and his brother, Thomas. He loved sailing, car racing and being outdoors. Funeral mass and celebration of life will be held after the first of the year in Raleigh, North Carolina. Memorial contributions can be made to Pat Brody Animal Shelter, P.O.
