With destroyed hearts, we announce the passing of Gregory Alan Wakefield of Clarksville, Tennessee, who departed this life on January 5, 2026, at the age of 55. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Gregory was a patient and kind soul whose calm demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gregory dedicated much of his life to service—both to his country and his community. His career spanned multiple branches of the U.S. military, including honorable service in the Navy, the Army, and the National Guard. Following his military tenure, he continued to serve with distinction as a Correctional Corporal for the State of Tennessee. In every role he undertook, Gregory exemplified integrity, resilience, and quiet strength.
While proud of his professional accomplishments, Gregory found his greatest joy in family. He cherished his role as “Opa” to his many grandchildren and was known as the unwavering rock of his family. His presence brought comfort and stability to those around him—a steady hand in times of uncertainty and a warm heart in moments of joy.
Gregory is survived by his beloved wife, Erika Shanks; his children: Katherine (Mario) Jurgensen, Douglas Wakefield, Jessica (Sean) Tompkins, Jessica Wakefield, and Kaelah Messer; and his treasured grandchildren: Zavier, Cambria, Tristian, Weston, Ryker, Lewis, Hunter, Montgomery, Haisley, and Emrys. He also leaves behind his siblings: Jim, Kathy, Ginger, and John.
Gregory’s legacy is one of steadfast love and quiet heroism. He will be missed more than words can describe.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Visitation will be held on January 12, 2026, from 03:30 PM to 04:30 PM at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral 1510 Madison St.
