Gregory Davis, Sr. , 72, of Hermitage, Tennessee, passed on July 27, 2021. Gregory was born on February 08, 1949.
Gregory was born to the union of the late George and Lady Mae Davis in Bessemer, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, both parents and one sister.
Gregory attended the Jefferson County Public Schools where he ultimately graduated from Bessemer City High School with Distinguished Honors in 1966. He then went on to attend Clark Atlanta University where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Finance. During his tenure at CAU, he pledged a lifetime commitment to the honorable, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. After completing his undergraduate studies, he went on to study at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to pursue a Master's in Marketing in which he obtained in 1974.
Gregory started his lifelong career in finance at American Express from 1975 to 2007. He went from a business analyst to senior advisor in the finance department where he excelled abundantly for 32 years. His lifelong commitment to serving and leading others has truly made lasting impacts on many of his colleagues and business associates. The amount of accolades, awards and rewards cannot take the place of his massive work ethic. After retirement in 2007, Gregory decided to manage a finance team at Chase Bank in which he served on the board of directors from 2009 to 2017. He officially retired in 2018.
Gregory enjoyed the fruit's of his labor entirely. He loved family, fishing, dancing, cooking, entertaining guests, exercising, playing chess, swimming, watching sports and other things. His love for traveling was truly a passion over the years. He loved to travel domestically and especially internationally. His favorite destination was Monaco. Being exposed to various cultures allowed him to eat different foods, listen to different music and taste wines from all across the world. Family vacations were his most prized moments because his love for his family never went unnoticed.
During the Clark Atlanta Homecoming of 1973, Gregory met the beautiful and intelligent, Evelyn Yvonne Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee. They became the best of friends during their lenghty courtship. The couple married on June 16, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia. The newly married couple made their new home in Nashville, Tennessee soon afterwards.
Gregory and Evelyn welcomed a bouncing bundle of joy into this world on May 29, 1987. A son, Gregory Henry Davis, Jr. was born. The joys of parenthood made the Davis's incredibly happy.
In his final years, Gregory enjoyed living life happily and doing things that he truly loved. With the loss of his loving wife in 2019, he didn't let death take him away from the joys of life itself. He deifintely pushed through and found comfort in prayer and mediation.
Gregory accepted Christ at an early age at the tender age of 16 at Mount Sinai AME Church near Tuskegee University under the late Bishop Wiley Atkins. Once married, Gregory later found a new church home at Temple Church under the late Bishop Michael Lee Graves. In 2016, the Davis family joined Bethel Outreach Church in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Gregory is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Evelyn Yvonne Davis. Survived by one dearly devoted son, Gregory Henry Davis, Jr.; two younger brothers, Grant (Paulette) Davis of Chesapeake, Virginia and Gavin (Vanessa) Davis of Johns Creek, Georgia; one sister, Zella (James) Payne of Huntsville, Alabama; devoted daughter-in-law, Natalie Reid-Davis of Nashville, Tennessee; loving nieces, Courtney Davis, Alicia Davis-Dixon, Farris Davis, Giselle Davis and Stella Payne; devoted nephews, Darryl Davis, Ryan Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Kareem Payne and Nathaniel Payne; special cousins, Herbert Lee Davis, Joe Davis, Mitchell Davis, Myron Cole, Daniel Washington, Florence Ward, Jackie Marshall, Glenda Maxwell, Freda Holt, Linda Kyles and the late Pastor Sylvester Martin; host of other cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family.
