Guilford E. HoffackerYorkGuilford "Gil" Eugene Hoffacker, 87, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of Doris E. (Bell) Hoffacker. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on February 9, 2017. Gil was born on December 12, 1929 in North York, the son of the late Guilford D. and Mazie (Emenheiser) Hoffacker. He was a 1947 graduate of North York High School and a longtime member of the high school reunion committee and treasured the archives and school memorabilia. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the time of the
Korean Conflict. Gil was the last survivor of five close Army buddies who became lifelong friends, vacationing together with their spouses and families for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North York. He served several terms on the Church Council and as President of the congregation. He was an active member of the congregation and enjoyed the fellowship of the Good News Class.He was a charter member and three time President of the former Devers Lions Club, Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor, and District Governor of District 14-C Lions International in 1969-70. Later he was a member and President of the North York Lions Club and celebrated over 53 years of perfect attendance. He was a life member of Lions International and a Melvin Jones Fellow. Lionism, service to the blind and others less fortunate were an important part of his life. Gil began his career in the printing industry with the Maple Press and then MacFarland Company. In 1965, he helped to launch Progressive Typographers into photo composition. After 25 years at Progressive, he retired as typography and printing salesman. After retiring, he loved traveling in the motorhome, spending much time in the condo at Myrtle Beach, SC, playing cards & games of all sorts, and golfing with 2 holes-in-one in his lifetime. A Celebration of Life service led by his pastor, the Rev. Beth A. Schlegel, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York. There will be a visitation on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Masonry Fund, 947 N.
