Hallie Kristina MordhorstApril 30, 1978 - November 13, 2016We lost a beautiful living soul on Sunday, November 13, 2016, when Hallie Kristina Mordhorst, 38, was taken from this world. Every one of us who was loved by Hallie felt that love personally and could not help but reciprocate. Those of us who were fortunate to share a closeness with her are reeling from the sudden nature of this loss. We often say to one another that "there are no words to describe" certain tragedies. It is true—there aren't. There are no words to adequately convey the hurt and the pain when we feel loss. Likewise, there were undoubtedly no words to describe the hurt and the pain that Hallie felt, in the events leading up to her last living breath. A bright light has certainly gone out, and much too soon.Hallie was born on April 30, 1978, to Edward and Dary (Bishop) Mordhorst. She grew up in Boise and attended local schools. Hallie was active in choir and even had the opportunity to travel abroad for competitions. During this time, she made many lifelong friends. Hallie graduated from Borah High School in 1996, went on to further herself in the medical field by getting her Medical Assistant certificate from the American Institute of Health Technology, and had also started working toward her degree at Boise State University. Her passion and her talents were in the nursing field, and it was easy to see that she was a natural fit in that occupational culture. Although people knew Hallie to be quiet, shy, and reserved, everyone also knew what a strong personality she had. Intellectual, opinionated, stubborn, and hilarious. She treasured and nurtured every living thing, except for plants…she killed plants!Whether you were in her life as a patient, a friend or relative, you felt her love. You were IN her life, and you knew it. As busy a woman as Hallie was, you knew you could count on her when you needed her. She loved to feel needed, and it gave her pleasure to serve others. Hallie started her career as a Medical Assistant, and her most prominent work would be sustaining Dr Eric Maier's bustling practice at Mountain View Medical Clinic. Their patients adored her. Many of them knew her weekly schedule so that they could avoid visits and/or phone calls to the clinic when they knew she wouldn't be there. Hallie was showered with gifts around the holidays, and it was really funny to watch her politely and respectfully try to decline these gifts. Her patients were as stubborn as she! Hallie's final position brought her to Ada Medical Associates, where she also worked in family practice. In her few years there, she managed to gain the same type of fan-base she acquired at Mountain View. In 1997, Hallie married Matthew Duncan, and they had two children together-- Kathryn and Luke. Even though their marriage ended, the two remained close friends and excellent co-parenting partners, along with Matt's current wife, Wendy. Hallie married Jeff Hetherington in 2009, and expanded the family with his daughters, Elliana and Mikayla. Hallie's personal life was sacred. The people who spent time with her outside the clinic knew that she loved her family deeply. Her children were her proudest and most beautiful accomplishments and her step-daughters were always treated and loved as her own. Eve was her honorary daughter from Thailand, and grabbed a place in Hallie's heart in 2012 when she came here for a student exchange. She was embraced and welcomed into the family right away. Hallie loved and admired her father, Ed, who passed away last year and left a hole that would never be replaced. Friends of Hallie's and friends of Hallie's children would gather at their home to watch the BSU football games for several years, and for almost every game. Ed would always happily be in attendance, and he fit seamlessly into the crowd. Hallie was "squad mom" to Kathryn's best friends, and would frequently check on them, even though their recent college endeavors had them spread out all over the map. Luke's friends were also loved and welcomed into their home anytime. Hallie's brother Nick took up residence with the family when he when back to school at BSU. After their beloved father died last year, it was more important than ever that these two stay together and support one another emotionally. One of Hallie's many talents was knitting. Lucky for her friends and family, it was also a hobby, so many of us received special gifts from her that were masterfully and meticulously created, not to mention, out of pure love. For the last couple years, Hallie and her best friend Monique worked together to create a baby fashion line of all adorable things handmade. They called their line "Haute Cross Buns," and their merchandise made regular appearances at local craft faires. They collaborated on their projects, and occasionally pulled (nearly) all-nighters, to bring their whimsical visions to life. Those nights of crafting and laughing will never be forgotten. Hallie is survived by her husband Jeff Hetherington, children Kathryn (19) and Luke (17) Duncan, step-daughters Elliana (16) and Mikayla (14) Hetherington, brother Nick Mordhorst, mother Dary (Paul) Bishop, maternal grandmother Lula Hamby, aunt Melanie (David) Enzminger, and uncles Bob and Bill Starkey, and Rick Berryman. She is preceded in death by her father Edward Dexter Mordhorst, paternal grandparents Edward and Iris Mordhorst, and uncle Tim Berryman.Services for Hallie will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 2pm at Whitney Methodist Church (which she grew up in).
