Hannah C. McElligottWest Hills, CADecember 14, 1920 - July 6, 2017Hannah Campbell McElligott passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017 with her family by her side.Hannah was a strong independent woman who from an early age started an adventure that lasted 96 ? years. She was born on December 14, 1920 to Melvin and Ola Campbell in Charlotte N.C. and was the youngest of her two sisters Lucille and AnnieMae. She was very proud of her southern roots, graduating as a RN nurse from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing going into the Army shortly thereafter. She was proud of her service to her country in WWII as a Lieutenant First Class Army Nurse in the China, Burma conflict stationed in India for two years. Her stories of her time as an Army nurse were fascinating and fun to hear. She continued her nursing career, moving to Los Angeles meeting the man she married and had her four children with. Michael, Kathleen, Patrick and Timothy.Mom continued her nursing career while raising her family as an emergency room RN at Northridge and West Hills Hospitals, working at the Rockdyne facility in Woodland Hills and then retiring after a 20 year career from the Department of Water and Power, being appointed head nurse and then moving to an aide station to work closely with two doctors she very much admired and learned from.Mom worked until she was 71 and in her retirement years she enjoyed her passion of playing golf with several women teams ? the Powder Puffs and the Teed-off gang as well as with her sons who she taught the game to and enjoyed playing with. Her passion continued until she had to give it up at 90. In addition to golf, Mom enjoyed traveling with her friends, being with her family, knitting, crossword puzzles, going to the theater and her burgundy wine. She was a truly talented and special person who will be missed dearly. Her family is extremely proud of her as she lived her life her way, living independently until the very end and meeting her everyday challenges head-on.The legacy she passes onto her family will be embraced by all ? her strength and resilience, her love of family, her many talents, her gift of laughter and her take charge, I can do it attitude. Mom will be missed by her children and their spouses, Kathy (Butch), Pat (Brenda), Tim (Deborah) as well as her 7 grandchildren and her 9 great grandchildren. Her oldest son Mike preceded her in death on July 8, 2016.God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me."With tearful eyes, we watched you and saw you pass away and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A Golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.A Celebration of Mom's Life will take place Tuesday, August 8th at 11:00 at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary, 6909 Canoga Avenue, Canoga Park, CA.
