Grantham, Hansel "Gaylon" 77 of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on June 3, 2017. Gaylon was born on January 8, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona to Vernon and Dorothy Grantham. He was the oldest of five children and always felt responsible for his siblings. Besides living in Arizona, they also lived in New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon and Texas. He graduated from South Mountain High School in Phoenix after spending most of his high school years in Ontario, Oregon; and he obtained his Bachelor and Master Degrees at Arizona State. He was an all-around athlete both in school and as an adult. Prior to retirement he was a Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He was passionate about his career and worked on several landmark cases. His final post was working as an Analyst with the IRS in Washington, DC. After retirement he became an avid gardener and cook. His last residence was in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was in Arizona temporarily working when he became ill and had not had the opportunity to relocate to California with his wife after the sale of their Virginia house in April. Gaylon was a veteran having served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was also a Mason and a member of the BPOE (Elks). He was a loving husband to Kathy Grantham; a proud father of two sons Derek Grantham and Rick Grantham; a doting uncle and great uncle to Kim, Tatum, and Scarlett Shelton. His family was very important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lyle Grantham, and sister, Louise McGuire. He is survived by his wife, sons, and sisters, Patricia Holmes and Sandra Denman, step daughter, Heather Baboolal, as well as his grandchildren, Ashleigh Grantham, Nikolas Grantham, Sara Grantham, Taitum Grantham, Charlie Baboolal, and Crosby Baboolal. He will be interred in the Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix near his brother Lyle at a later date.
