Harley W. Lewis, 88, went peacefully to be with the Lord on October 8, 2017 in Alamogordo. Harley was born on March 7, 1929 in Utopia, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, brother and sister. There are several nieces and nephews that have also passed.Harley is survived by his son John and his wife Deb; his daughter Brenda and her husband Gary; granddaughters Rebecca & Amber; grandsons John Woodward, Brian, and three great granddaughters, Alyssa, Trinity & Tori. Harley served in the
U.S. Navy during the
Korean War. He came home and married his bride and had a family. He was an extremely hard worker. Harley started his career at Shell Oil Company. Eventually, he left for his family. They moved back to Uvalde, TX, where he worked for Sunbeam Bread Company. He and his wife decided to join a family member in San Mateo, CA. In CA, he became a machinist for thirty years. As retirement approached, his wife found Alamogordo where they lived for 25 years. He found he was not good at retirement. He got a job at I.G.A. as a bagger. He then decided to work for Walmart as a greeter, and loved it. He loved making people smile, or he'd have a joke for you. He loved to make people smile or laugh. He's made all of us smile and laugh for years. Now he's up in Heaven making the Lord smile and laugh. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on October 16, 2017, at the Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Chapel.The graveside funeral service for Harley Lewis will be held at Monte Vista Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., on October 17, 2017.The Lewis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.To sign the online register book, please visit
