ALBION — Harold I. Campbell, 86, of rural Albion, died on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born on Oct 9, 1930 in Noble County to the late Charles and Gertrude (Smith) Campbell. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a member of the Air Force Fire Department. He was employed with O.E. Coney Auto Body for many years. He was also a member of the Avilla American Legion Post 240, lifetime member of VFW Francis E. Vinyard Post 2749 in Kendallville, and formerly a member of Kendallville American Legion Post 86. He is survived by a son, Jason (Nitasha) Campbell of Savannah, Georgia; daughters Karen (Doug) Richards of Ligonier and Peggy LaRue of Columbia City; and sister Mary Stadfeld of Albion. Also surviving are grandchildren Ryan (Erin) LaRue, Amy (Julian) Knepple, Hannah Campbell and Katherine Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Knepple, Kyra Wolf and Charlottee LaRue. He was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy, Boyd and Walter, and brother-in-law Ralph Stadfeld. Funeral service will be 11 a.m Tuesday Nov 29, 2016 at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion, with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will be provided by Avilla American Legion Post 246. Visitation also from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday November 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Avilla American Legion Post 240 Honor Guard, or VFW Post 2749 Honor Guard.
