Harold D. Beckwith, 85, of Main St., Corry, Pa., died on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Corry Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 30, 1931, a son of the late George E. and Jassamine Jackson Beckwith Sr. Harold was raised and educated in Bloomfield Township, graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1949. Harold worked several jobs in Corry and he owned and operated Beckwith Service Station at Riceville Corners for four years. He then worked for thirty-three years at McInnes Steel where he was a machinist and later a shipping clerk, retiring in 1995. Immediately upon his retirement, Harold took care of a small boy "Johnny Papotnik" while his mother worked. Johnny adopted Harold as his grandfather and always referred to him as Pa Pa. Some years later, he delivered prescriptions in Corry for the Medicine Shoppe, where he made many friends. He worked there for several years. Harold was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed coin collecting, hunting and fishing, and following the Cleveland Browns, Indians and the Cavaliers. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by three sisters Georgina Strickland and Winifred Adsit and infant sister Jessie Beckwith and three brothers James, Rexford, George Edward Beckwith. Harold is survived by his wife Edna B. VanTassel Beckwith, whom he married on January 6, 1951, in Centerville, Pa. He is also survived by two daughters Karen Beckwith of Erie, Pa., and Sharon Thieme and her husband Albert of Spartansburg, Pa., two sons Gregory Beckwith and his wife Mitzi of Canadohta Lake, Pa., and Robert Beckwith and his wife Debra of Swanton, Ohio, and a sister Donna Carpenter of Warren, Ohio. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Candie Shreve, Mindy Moses, Shannon Truesdail and her husband Brian, Ryan Rejzer, Dana McWilliams, Kyle Beckwith and Jessica Braendel and three great-grandchildren Kaden, Wyatt and Cali and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11 a.m. Frederick C. Lenz will officiate.
