Harold E. HillGIBSONBURG: Gibsonburg resident, Harold E. Hill, 93, passed away on April 27, 2017 at Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor. He was born on January 20, 1924 in Sheridan, IN to Leslie L. and Nell A. (Mabrey) Hill. Harold attended Fremont Ross High School and graduated from Scott High School, Toledo, in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. During his enlistment, he worked his way up the ranks to become a Sargent, and he was stationed in Alaska for a year and Washington for 2 years during the war. On November 29, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg Harold married Helen Burkemyer. Together they shared 66 loving years of marriage until Helen's passing on July 16, 2014. He was a lifelong farmer, in addition to working for Chrysler as a forklift operator, retiring on June 1, 1989.Harold was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Gibsonburg American Legion Post #17, the former Moose Lodge, and he attended many activities at the Fremont, Pemberville and Bowling Green Senior Centers. Surviving are his children, James (Margaret) Hill of Genoa, Linda (Fred) Bursiek of Gibsonburg, Cyndi (Rick) Walters of Bradner, and Connie Haslinger of Helena; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Lester (Jennie) Hill of Fremont. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg where an additional hour of visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Rev. Blair Miller will officiate. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Eisenhour Cemetery, Pemberville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or to the Gibsonburg American Legion.
