Harold HaberichterHarold Roy Wilburt Haberichter, age 84, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at the family home, in Clever, Missouri, after a life-long struggle from the effects of polio as a young man. He was born on Jan. 4, 1933 near Monona, Iowa, the son of the late Vern and Nora Haberichter. Harold was also preceded in death by an infant sister. He graduated from Monona HS. Harold served in the US Army from June 8, 1954 to May 23, 1956. He attended Basic Training at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He was then sent to Ft. Gordon, Ga. for radioman school. He was then assigned to the Kaiserslautern region in Germany as a radioman until his discharge, whereupon he was transferred to the inactive reserves. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and was awarded the Army Good Conduct medal.Shortly after his discharge he married Mary Elizabeth Meyer from Ossian, Iowa, and they began farming north of Ossian. Harold and Mary were married over 60 years until Harold's death. They continued farming on various farms around Ossian until 1978 when they moved to a farm near Clever, Mo. They continued farming there until 1989 when they retired to their current home in Clever.In addition to farming Harold also worked as a truck driver, plant worker, and bus driver. Harold was active in the community, serving as a church trustee and elder, school board member, member of the Clever Planning and Zoning Board, and Clever Farmers Fire Protection Association Inc. and was a Rural Farmers Fire district board member. He was recently chosen as the 2016 Clever Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Harold was also very engaged as a blood donor until his health prevented him from donating. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mary; his children, Marcus (and Vivian), Choctaw, Okla., David, Clever, Mo., Angela Glenn, Strafford, Mo., and Nathan (and Angie), Wichita, Kan.; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brothers, Vernis, from Waukon, Iowa, and Clarence, from Monona, Iowa.A visitation will be held at from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 in Meadors Funeral Home in Republic, Mo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 in Hope Lutheran Church, 218 E. Highway 174, Republic. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow the service in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Clever, Mo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Hope Lutheran Church.
