Harris Mitchell Obituary

Feb 01, 2017 - Jan 01, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Harris "Beau" MitchellWeaverville, CA 1933 - 2017 Harris, or "Beau," as he was called, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at Trinity Hospital in Weaverville, after a lengthy illness at the age of 84. His wife, Janey, was by his side. They had been married over 49 years. Beau was born on Feb. 10, 1933, in Ballinger, Texas in Runnels County to Glen and Juanita Mitchell. He spent most of his younger years growing up in this small central-western town. His mother taught him to fish when he was just a little boy. In later years, after his dad and mother divorced, and his mother remarried, he traveled around the country with his mother and stepdad, who was in the service. In summer months, he would travel alone to live with his dad, Glen, in Trinity County. He got to know the county well and loved it. In later years, he met Janey, when they were both working in downtown Dallas at the time. Beau worked at many jobs: for various companies and for himself: at Simmons mattresses; as a sewing machine repairman; as a supervisor and cutter at Scholkopf cutting gun cases and saddle pads; and as owner of a bait house at Lake Tawakoni. He and Janey also owned a western goods store in Grand Prairie, TX, where Janey was from, and where they had met. They moved to Weaverville in 1971; Beau's dad had lived there many years. Beau became a Lions Club member and remained active for many years. He was on the Sanitary District Board of Directors for 40 years, as well as other boards. He was active in the Church of Christ until his illness was almost full-blown. He became a land developer and heavy equipment operator, and later retired from Trinity County Office of Education. Beau could repair anything and enjoyed figuring out how things worked. He was a man of too many talents and ideas to mention. Beau was proud that he was born in Texas, speaking with a slow southern drawl. He had a calm demeanor. Most people who knew him described him as a "gentleman," and someone with a tremendous sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid ocean fisherman, spending much time in Crescent City. He enjoyed farming, camping, yard work, tending a huge garden, swimming, taking ocean liner cruises and any kind of traveling. He loved music, especially bluegrass, old country and gospel, and was proficient with the harmonica. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys. He also was diligent at reading the Bible, too. Beau committed his life to serving and helping people, placing their needs before his own, and having a positive influence on many. When you spent time with him there was always laughter. His great sense of humor is a legacy that will forever live on. He enjoyed life more than anyone could imagine. He had a zest for life and enthusiasm for adventure and boundless energy. Beau will be remembered for his gentlemanly manners, honesty, open heart and his loyal and loving spirit. He left this world with a song in his heart and a love for his Lord that can never be matched. When you think of him you can't help but smile for having known him.Beau is survived by his wife Janey of Weaverville; sons Harris of Washington, D.C. and Steven of Portland, OR; and two brothers Michael and Mark from his dad Glen's marriage to his second wife, Ruth Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his mother Juanita Kump and stepdad Kenneth Kump of San Angelo, TX and his dad, Glen E. Mitchell of Weaverville, Calif. He fought the fight like the warrior he always was with a positive outlook, but when the Lord called him home he answered His call. Rest in love, our sweet, loving man.Arrangements are being handled by Trinity Alps Funeral Home, Weaverville. Please sign the guest book at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/redding/
