Harry J. HarlanZANESVILLE: Harry J. Harlan , 91 of Zanesville died at 11:28:00 PM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital following a brief illness.He was born on February 14, 1922 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of Harry. H. and Roxie Farris Harlan. A 1941 graduate of Lash High School, he served in the
Army during
World War II in the European Theatre of Operation in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Harry retired after 42 years of service as a Mould Maker for Brockway Glass. He was a lifelong fan of Zanesville High School and Ohio State sport events and also enjoyed a second vocation of home building along with his wife of 63 years, the former Margaret Northrop Harlan who passed away in 2009. In later years, he stayed busy with his woodcraft. He was a Methodist by faith and was a 65-year Masonic member of Lafayette Lodge #79 where he served as Tyler for 15 years. Harry was also a member of Post 29 of the American Legion.He is survived by a daughter, Connie Harlan of Worthington; and a son, Thomas (Cheryl) Harlan of Zanesville; grandchildren, Christopher Harlan of San Jose, CA, Dr. Julia Harlan of Iowa City, IA, Benjamin Harlan of Zanesville and Abby Harlan of Columbus. He is also survived by two great grandchildren; a special nephew Robert (Gerry) Gardner of Zanesville; special friend Linda (Robert) Lawter of Graham, NC; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and spouse, he was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Harlan; and three brothers, Paul, David and Donald Harlan; and a sister-Virginia Harlan. Masonic Services will be held at 6:00 pm with visitation to follow until 8pm on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home Chapel. A private graveside service at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the .The Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. Zanesville is in charge of the arrangements.
