HARRY M. SEIPLE JR., 89 FREEPORT - Harry M. Seiple Jr., 89 yrs. old, of Freeport passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 in his son's home in Lena. He was born on Mar. 17, 1925 in Mt. Carroll to Harry Marsh and Mary Elizabeth (Newell) Seiple. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1943 and was drafted into military service immediately after graduation. Harry was a member of the 4th infantry division of the U.S. Army; he was in the 6th wave during the D-Day invasion at Normandy; while in service Harry received a Bronze Star. Upon discharge from the military Harry married Ruth (Fredrick) of Danville, VA, divorced and married Barbara (Molander) Seiple on Dec. 1, 1956. He was employed by Piggly Wiggly and Eagles (Lucky Foods) for 35 yrs. During his retirement Harry also worked for Freeport School District as a Bus Monitor. Harry was a member of the American Legion, 40/8, Boys State and a member of the Masonic Temple. He was a commander of the American Legion and the State Director of American Legion Baseball for the State of Illinois from 1995-2013. Harry became a life time member of the Freeport Pretzel Fans Club in 1976, He volunteered as a ticket taker for boys Basketball from 1976 to 2014 and held season tickets for football since 1976. He was as proud supporter of Freeport Athletics and always wanted to see them victorious. Harry is survived by Steve (Pat) Seiple of Danville, VA, Mary Seiple of Freeport, Larry (Candi) Seiple of Lena, Don (Patty) Seiple of Freeport, John (Susie) Seiple of Chicago, along with 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded by Barbara Seiple and his mother, father, 5 brothers, and 6 sisters. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Schwarz Funeral Home 816 S. Galena Ave. with graveside service at 2pm at Oakhill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Special thanks to Candi and Cari for caring for him at home along with FHN Hospice. In Lieu of flowers at memorial will be set up in his name.
