Harry Waldemar Dahl, IIIWest Des MoinesHarry Waldemar Dahl, III, 58, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 23 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Harry was born on November 6, 1958 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the oldest child of Harry Waldemar Dahl, Jr. and Bonnie Jean Dahl (Sorensen). A member of Boy Scout Troop 55, he received his Eagle Scout award in 1974. He was a third-generation graduate of East High School, graduating in 1977. Following graduation, he attended Drake University, earning both his BA and JD. His superior academic performance during his undergraduate studies earned him membership in Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating from Drake Law School, he began practicing Workers' Compensation at Harry W. Dahl, P.C. with his father, and later his wife. He was licensed to practice in both Iowa and Nebraska, and was also a respected mediator.While attending Drake Law School, he met the love of his life, Pamela Sue Greenman. They were married on June 19, 1985 in West Des Moines, Iowa. They welcomed daughters Katherine Elizabeth and Melissa Lynn on August 22, 1988 and a son, Christian Matthew, on December 26, 1992. Harry was a dedicated, proud, and loving father who always put his family first. He enjoyed family vacations to Rocky Mountain National Park, where he hiked over 300 miles of trails and summited several peaks, including Long's Peak. He was an avid outdoorsman who was passionate about nature. He was also dedicated to the study and preservation of Des Moines and Iowa history. Harry loved his garden, which included native Iowa plants and herbs. His pride and joy were his heirloom tomatoes and peppers of all varieties, which he always enthusiastically shared with neighbors, friends, and clients. An ardent supporter of local restaurants, he always found friends wherever he went and enjoyed his favorite cocktail, the Manhattan. His greatest gifts were his sense of humor, and his true desire to help others whenever and however he could. Harry gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation and was able to save the lives of 80 people in need.Left to celebrate his life are his wife Pamela and children Katherine, Melissa, and Christian; his mother, Bonnie and sister Christina Louise; many aunts, uncles, and cousins across the country, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry W. Dahl, Sr. and Helen Dahl and William Bryan and Esther Sorensen; his sister Lisabeth Ann; and his father Harry Waldemar Dahl, Jr.A celebration of life will be held at the Visitor Center at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa from 2-5 p.m, Tuesday, November 29, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry's name can be made to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation or the YMCA of the Rockies.
