Col. Harry Warner Lombard, 86, Gadsden, passed away, Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. The Revs. Carl Saxton and Grady Richardson will officiate. Interment will follow in Forrest Cemetery.Harry was born on April 24, 1930. He attended Sewanee Military Academy from 1942 to 1947 and upon graduation, he entered United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated from there in 1951. He was commissioned 2nd Lt. in the Corps of Engineers. Harry served in Korea and Vietnam and retired from the US Army after 26 wonderful years of service. He joined Parsons Brinckerhoff, Quade and Douglas in New York City. In 1978, Harry was assigned as Project Manager on the construction of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He retired in 1997 and moved to Gadsden in 2002.Harry found joy and fulfillment in serving in the Kiwanis Club, as chairman of the Middle School Builders Club, on the Board of Darden Rehabilitation Center, on the Board of the Episcopal Day School, on the Board of the Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association and in his church. He was a member of the Military Officer's Association, the Old Goats and the Supreme Court Coffee Club.Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcie McCorkle Lombard; his daughter, Kathleen Hendricks, and her husband Richard; his son, H. Warner Lombard and his wife Serita; his son, Frank M. Lombard; and his niece, Donna Wadsworth; grandchildren, Rick Hendricks, Beth Larsen and her husband, Matt, Victoria Lombard, Stephen Lombard, Kyle Lombard, and Matt Lombard.Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Echols, James Christopher, and the Supreme Court Coffee Club: Charles Cantrell, Col. Thomas Cash, John Dawson, Dr. Thomas Dowling, Dr. Larry Grimes, Merlin Hagedorn, Thomas Hughes, and Tom McKenzie.The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Big Oak Ranch, or the .The family will receive friends for visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.Online condolences may be made to www.collier-butler.com.Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
