Darrow, Harry Watson Sr.HARRY WATSON DARROW, SR, 96, entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2016 at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, Mansfield, CT following a brief illness.Harry was born on December 2, 1919 in Astoria, NY, to the late Benjamin and Lillian Darrow. Harry was predeceased by his wife Nora (Hogan) Darrow, his son Brian Darrow, Sr., and his brother William Darrow. He is survived by Ellen Darrow of Mansfield, CT, Barbara (Darrow) Proulx and her husband Donald of Ashford, CT, Harry Darrow, Jr. and his wife Maggie of Norwalk, CT, and Gail Darrow of Milford, CT; his beloved grandchildren David Proulx of San Diego, CA, Kelly Darrow of Milford, CT, and Brian Darrow, Jr. of Milford, CT, along with several nieces and nephews.Earning the rank of Boatswain's Mate First Class in the
United States Navy, Harry served his country from 1937 to 1940 and from 1941 to 1945. Harry was a veteran of
World War II, and he was a lifetime member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), The American Legion, the Army & Navy Union U.S.A. (ANU), the U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association (USNCSA), the Guantanamo Bay Association, and the Patrol Craft Sailors Association (PCSA). Harry was also a very active and proud charter lifetime member of the Veterans of Underage Military Service (VUMS). While living in Stamford, CT, Harry worked over 40 years in the heating/air conditioning trade. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he volunteered tirelessly with the Boy Scouts, Saint Benedict's Church, and Saint Basil School in Stamford, CT.Harry's sense of humor, vast mechanical knowledge and willingness to help others will be forever missed and remembered by all those whose lives he touched.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Dr. Nelson Walker and all the staff at Mansfield Family Practice for their compassion and care over the years. The family would also like to express their deepest appreciation to the entire staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation for their daily dedication, love, and care of Harry.There will be no calling hours.
