This obituary is administered by:
Harvey E. ShultisAge: 99Harvey E Shultis, 99, passed away Saturday February 4, 2017 at U.V.M Medical center in Burlington. Harvey was born on October 19th, 1917 in Glenford N.Y to Chester and Jenny Clancy Shultis. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Terwilliger Shultis and seven brother and sisters. He is survived by his good friend and caretaker, Wendy Shepard and long-time friend Ron Glass, both of Starksboro. Harvey was a U.S Army veteran of the Second World War and served in the South Pacific including the Phillippines and New Guinea where he almost lost his life to malaria. He was among those preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Harvey was employed by the Feney Shipyard in Kingston, NY until it ceased producing vessels for the Navy. Although he was offered a position at a shipyard in another location, he desired to remain in his home area and became a plumber at the Benedictine Hospital until his retirement in 1979. Throughout his career and into retirement Harvey worked as a plumbing contractor for himself as well. Harvey had a knack for repairing the 'unrepairable' and richly deserved the title of "Mr Fix-It." Harvey, a very accomplished hunter and fisherman and also had a deep appreciation for wildlife and the environment. Harvey was raised on a subsistence farm and fish and game meat were an important component to his quality of life. As he grew older, Harvey more and more considered wild animals to be his friends rather than quarries. He had a deep love for children. He liked dogs but was especially fond of cats and deeply missed his old cat "Kit-Kat" after she expired. Although Harvey disdained fanfare, he was an uncompromising friend to those close to him and one who would truly "have your back." We have lost a good friend who will be deeply missed. A celebration of Harvey's life will be held at Common Ground Center in Starksboro on Saturday February 18th at 1:00pm.
