Helen CastanienUpper Sandusky: Helen Louise Castanien, age 92, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and formerly of rural Nevada, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the
Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.Helen was born on June 15, 1925 in Goodland,Kansas, to Rev. Allison M. and Helen Marie (Krouskop) Stouffer, both of whom are deceased. She married Thomas Castanien on September 24, 1951, and he survives.She is survived by 4 children: Greg (Penny) Comer of Hamburg, Arkansas, Janee Brant of Hilliard, Stephen (Karen) Castanien of Upper Sandusky, Janice (Tom) Scheiber of Attica, Ohio. 13 grandchildren, Paula Mullins, Stephanie (Don) Knowlton, Michelle (John) Weldy, Angie (Jaime) Oviedo, Kristin (D.J.) Mangas, Benji (Kristen) Brant, Michael Castanien, Kevin Castanien, Nikki (Blake) Rossell, Scott (Christina) Castanien, Lauren (Adam) Greiner, Meredith Scheiber, Lesley (Megan) Koilparampil, along with 21 grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Douglas Scheiber, a brother LeRoy Stouffer, a sister, Ruth Cox, and a son in law, Tim Brant.Helen was a LPN, and later a RN at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky retiring in 1972 after many years of service. She obtained her nursing degree from Marion Technical College in Marion. She was a long time member of the former Church of God in Upper Sandusky, where she served as treasurer, song leader and also taught Sunday School. In the last year, Helen attended Friday Morning Bible Study at Trinity Evangelical in Upper Sandusky. For hobbies, Helen enjoyed going to Curves in Upper Sandusky, loved cats, quilting,, sewing, raising flowers, especially roses and daylilies, reading and collecting angels.Funeral services for Helen Castanien will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Omar Swart officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.Visitations will be held on Friday, November 3, 2016, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and 1 hour before service time on Saturday, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
