Helen "Penny" CurranPOUGHKEEPSIE - Helen "Penny" Curran, 97 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at home. Helen was born on February 20, 1920 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Paul and Katherine Rogeski Salsick. She married Francis "Frank" Curran on December 30, 1950 in Carlisle, PA who predeceased her on April 4, 2010.Helen was employed as a Registered Nurse at Vassar Brothers Hospital from 1967 until her retirement. She established the St. Francis Hospital Day Clinics in 1952. Helen was a Poly-Clinic Hospital Alumni in Harrisburg, PA, a life member of the Holy Trinity Women's Association, the Retired US Army Officers Association and the NYS Nurses Association. Helen proudly served as a 1st Lieutenant in World War II as an Army Nurse serving in the Middle East. Helen is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. Curran & David Thibodeau of Wakefield, MA, two nieces and their families: Julie(David) Roseman, Jocelyn & Jared and Leah(Greg) Rand, Diana and Patrick. There is a grandson: Tyler Clapp. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Terry DeCaro, brother, Edward Salsick and sister, Stella Schneider.Visitation will be on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 62 LaGrange Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY with Military Honors. Memorial donations can be made to either Holy Trinity Church of Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
