Helen (Collins) Day97, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, in Greenwood. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point, NE with Pastor Les Parmenter as officiant. Memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.Helen Grace Collins was born on July 8, 1920 to George and Minnie (Will) Collins in West Point, NE. She had a wonderful childhood in West Point and graduated from West Point High School in 1938 where she was valedictorian. Helen continued her education at
Northwestern University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. On October 5, 1942, Helen married Fay Day (deceased 1976) in West Point. Helen lived in several cities around the US with her family including Boston MA, Washington D.C., Old Greenwich CT, Glenwood IA and Indianapolis IN. While in D.C. Helen was especially proud of her service in the office of the Secretary of Labor. Her working career also included more than 25 years with Eli Lilly and Co. at their subsidiary in Omaha and corporate office in Indianapolis. Helen was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church where she was very involved in many activities including fundraising. She was an avid sports fan and could be found cheering on the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers with her cousin Lorain Will (also from West Point). Helen also loved to travel with Lorain and other friends and enjoyed her time in the British Isles, France, Hawaii, and Canada. Survivors include her son, Fay Day, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Kay (Mike) Neal of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Neal of Indianapolis and Elizabeth Neal of St. Louis; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Bennett, and Lauren Neal. Helen is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Leigh Collins, Clark Collins, Frederick Collins, Dennis Collins, and Ruth Ahern.
