Helen Duval Obituary

Nov 19, 1918 - Mar 20, 1958

This obituary is administered by:
Helen Carol Duval November 19, 1918 - November 5, 2014Helen C. Duval passed away at her home on November 5, 2014, from natural causes. She had struggled with severe degenerative pain over the past year, and progressive physical deterioration. She remained committed to her Lord always saying "not my will, but Thine be done". The funeral mass will be Friday, November 7, 2014, at 3:00 pm, preceded by the Rosary at 2:15 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22 2nd St. No, Cascade, MT. A Graveside Service will be held at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Nampa, ID on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:00 am. Helen was born on November 19, 1918, to Merle and Christina Pfost, in Nampa, Idaho. After living her younger years in California, she returned to Idaho where she attended schools in Boise, and finished High School in Nampa. It was there she met her only love, Claude H. Duval, Jr., the son of a pioneer Nampa family. She was 13 and he was 15 when they started seeing one another. They married on March 22, 1941. "June" as he was known, entered the Army and was deployed overseas in WWII, three weeks before the birth of Renee, their first daughter. He returned in 1945 and they enjoyed a short life together until he died on March 20, 1958. By that time, they had a son, Stephen "Skip", and a daughter Charlene. In 1975, Helen retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Company, where she was employed while raising her three children. They and her Catholic faith were her life's focus. In 1992, she moved to Great Falls, as daughter Charlene lived in Cascade, and daughter Renee lived in Butte. In 2007, she moved to Cascade into a brand new home that Charlene and her husband, Leonard, built for her on their property. She was thrilled as this was her only new home she had ever lived in. This is where she spent her final days, surrounded by the mountains, the river and the "Big Montana Skies" that she loved so well.Survivors include: daughters: Renee (Gene) Ashby, Butte, MT; Charlene (Leonard) Moug, Cascade, MT; son: Skip Duval, Nampa, Idaho; Grand/great-grandchildren: Steve (Jacqueline) Ashby, and Ryan of Butte; Dave (Angie) Ashby, and Riley and Connor of Helena; Susanne Ashby of Butte; Mark Ashby, Houston, TX; Camille (Todd) La Bronte, Meridian Idaho, T.J.
