SEGAL, HELEN HYATT Helen Hyatt Segal 93, formerly of New Haven, died on November 23, 2016 at her residence in Fla. She was born on September 26, 1923 in New Haven, CT, daughter of Dora and Morris Hyatt. After graduating from New Haven High School, she went to Quinnipiac Jr. College. After graduating, Helen worked as a dental assistant and bookkeeper. Then married Lt. Jack Segal. A union that lasted for 64 years. During a time when few women were owners of a business, Helen owned and managed a residential apartment building while still finding time to be a caring mother to her two daughters and a loving wife to her husband Jack. Helen taught her daughters about the importance of community and how to build strong relationships. Helen was a dynamic, dedicated, caring, passionate and smart woman. She presided over a multitude of non-profit organizations. As she grew older, she was elected President of her condo association for over 20 years, becoming a reservoir of assistance for all the people and families that lived there. Helen was the loving mother of Barbara Segal Rutberg and Jerold Rutberg, Marlene Segal Wise and the late Jeffrey Wise. Proud grandmother of Joshua Rutberg, Nicole and Brett Di Resta, Jennifer and Michael Weinstein and Paula and Gregory Wise. She loved her great-grandchildren Andrew, Rachel, and Jack Di Resta and Jordan Weinstein. She leaves behind a zest for living, caring for others, and the importance of family and friendships. Funeral Services at B’nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Ave, New Haven, CT. TUESDAY November 29. at 12:00 Noon under the care of Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, 543 George St. New Haven, CT. Shiva will be observed at the home of Marlene Wise, 15 Pondview Circle, Sharon, Mass., Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm. Wednesday and Thursday 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00 pm.
