Helen Joan LooperBeloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen Joan Looper (pronounced "JoAnn") 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died on December 16, 2016 in her Columbine Winslow apartment. Joan was born on September 16, 1925 in Grinnell, Iowa to Eldon J. Olds and Wilma Talbott. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in Music Education in 1946. Joan met Joseph Henry Looper "Joe" at University of Colorado where Joe played clarinet in the band. After college, Joan took her first job as a music instructor in Springfield, CO while Joe was active duty in the Navy V-12 program. Joan and Joe married in 1947, when he finished active duty, and began a new life together. Joan nurtured her love of music mastering the bassoon and marimba among other instruments; never losing her passion for music throughout her life. She was a faithful, lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities over the years. At her church in Milwaukee, she originated a tutoring program that has grown and been expanded to this day. When Joe retired, he and Joan traveled the world, served the International Rotary community, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 2011 and their eldest son, Larry; and is survived by four children (Gary, Cathy, Bob, Randy), 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. The entire family gathered for a 90th birthday celebration for Joan. A graveside service for the immediate family will be held on Tuesday, December 19, at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Project Self-Sufficiency, the First United Methodist Church, or the , in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins. It is comforting to know that the God of all comfort will completely remove all grief at the time of the earthly resurrection. The Bible at John 5:28,29 comforts us with the words, “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” God promises that “he will do away with death forever, and God will wipe the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8
