ALBION — Helen J. Stangland, 88, of Albion, died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Parkview Noble Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 5, 1928, in Wolf Lake to the late Ace and Mary Oldine (Gaerte) Erdly. She was a 1946 graduate of Wolf Lake High School, and married Roger E. Stangland on June 12, 1949, in Wolf Lake. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1989. Helen spent most of her years away from this area following her husband as he prepared for the ministry and during his employment at Moody Bible Institute. She had lived in Chicago, Bridgeview, Illinois, Winona Lake, Wheaton, Illinois, Plymouth, and later returned to Albion in 1972. She dedicated her entire life to Christ and will always be remembered as a bright, shining light, who always had a smile and kind word to share. Helen had many friends in the community and touched their lives with her laughter, encouragement, and testimony of her faith in Christ. She was a gifted pianist and still, at age 88, played the piano for Berean Baptist Church in Albion. Her dedication, strength, selfless love, and continual support for her family was a constant testimony of her deep faith in Christ and sincere loving spirit. Survivors include her daughter, Kathie (Larry) Huff; her son, Mark Stangland; grandchildren, Kyle (Haley) Orr, Taylor (Jenn) Orr, Michelle Sheets and Michael Stangland; and great-granddaughters, Ruelyn Orr and Alanna Sheets. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Joan Harroff, and brother, Jimmy Erdly. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Berean Baptist Church, 110 Highland Park Drive, Albion, with memorial calling from 4 p.m. until service time.
