On July 15, 2024, the world lost a legend. Henry Johnson, born in Lumpkin, Mississippi on November 27, 1940 he later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Henry transitioned peacefully in his home at the age of 83. He was the beloved son of Daniel H. Johnson and Lucy B. Johnson who preceded him in death.
Henry was a loving partner to Vicky Minor and a doting father to his daughter Angela Winston and her Spouse Toriano Winston. He was the proud grandfather of two boys, De’ Angeleo Daniel & Toriano De’Jevone Winston and also cherished his great-grand daughter twins Harmony & Harper Winston.
Henry received his education at Crispus Attucks High School graduating at 16. He went on to further his studies as an Assistant to Professors at the University of Indianapolis. He dedicated many years of his life to serving the City of Indianapolis before retiring in 1989.
Aside from his professional achievements, Henry was actively involved in charitable organizations such as St. Jude Hospital, the National Veterans Association, Feed America and many more non profit organizations as well. His selfless contributions to these causes touched and often changed the lives of many.
In his free time, Henry enjoyed reading, dancing, playing the harmonica, and watching old westerns, horror, and gangster films. Ashe could dance as well as James Brown! His vibrant and bigger than life personality as well as his passion for life were evident in all that he did. Henry was always a man of his word; his favorite saying “ Say what you mean, and mean what you say, then stand on it!” was indeed what he lived by as he did things his way with no regrets. He often also said “There are no real mistakes at all, some things are meant to happen, those are the lessons to learn from before you move on.”
Henry Johnson will be remembered not only for his deep love of humanity, but his kindness, generosity, unwavering faith and deep abiding love for his family. He was always teaching and giving life lessons and living by example. When people encountered Mr. Henry (MC) to many, they knew he was passing wisdom and waited with bated breath as it was always something to live by. He was also a lover of fun and knew how to have a good time, he always lit up a room and was often the life of the party whenever he walked in.

Henry (MC) was on American Band Stand with Dick Clark 2 times and could rival Stevie Wonder playing that harmonica of his!
He was preceded in death by mother Lucy B. Johnson, father Daniel H. Johnson, brother Muhammad (Jeddy) Lewis, sister Elizabeth(Lizzy Sargent, and nephew Red Johnson.
Henry leaves a living legacy of loved ones to keep his memory alive starting with his daughter Angela Winston S(Toriano Winston), Grandchildren De’Angeleo (Dee)Winston, Toriano(Lil Tori)Winston, Great grand daughters Harmony & Harper Winston, Brothers: William (Willie)Johnson, Sylvester (June-bug) Etter, Sisters: Patricia A. (Pat)Johnson, Diane Bunton. Darryl and James Oaldon, Tibby and Nikki Sanders, Tenisha Minor-Toliver, Nephews looked at as sons Terry Johnson & Ronnie Lewis, and Jeremy he held dear to his heart.
Henry (MC) lived a full life and he did it his way! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in heavenly peace with his harmonica in his hands.
