Jan 01, 2016 - Nov 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Henry "Hank" Andrew Kalinofsky, of Annapolis, Md., was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in Edwardsville, and died peacefully on Nov. 17, 2016.

After graduating Edwardsville High School in 1940, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Poconos camps and the Philadelphia Shipyards. Hank proudly served in the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific, on the Destroyer Escort USS McNulty DE-581 and on the USS LSM (R)-198 rocket ship. "The Ultimate Battle," by Bill Sloan, retells some of his exploits in the Pacific. He married his wife Margaret Balberchak on Feb. 8, 1947, in Kingston, with her brother, the Rev. (Monsignor) John Balberchak, officiating. He spent 28 years on the Washington, D.C., Police Force in Precinct 10 (Fourth District).

After retiring in 1976, he and his wife pursued their love of world travel, big band music, water aerobics and socializing. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Grand Knight for Mother Seton Council from 1981 to 1982. He had a great sense of humor and wrote personal messages for his family in the newspaper and comics.

Hank is survived by Marge, his wife of almost 70 years; his daughters, Joyce (Robert) McKay, of Severn, Md., Jean (Deacon Gene, Col. Ret. U.S. Air Force) Townsend of San Antonio, Texas, and Ann (Bartley, Esq.) Baer, Esq., of Lafayette, Calif.; his 10 grandchildren, Jet (Lisa) Townsend, Kim (John) Brannon, Robert (Crystal) McKay, Steven (Leslie) Burg, Patrick McKay, Noelle (Jonathan) Moore, Stacy (Fernando) Peña, Annalise, Henry and Grace Baer; and his seven great-grandchildren, Gavin and Gwyneth Moore, Andrew and Abigail Brannon, April and Harrison Burg, and Claire Townsend; and his sister, June Wallo, of Dallas.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Kalinowski and Anna (Twardowski) Kalinowski; sisters, Helen Maslowski, Anna Kowalewski, Florence Kalinofsky and Jean Koval, of Edwardsville and Kingston.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, followed by a memorial requiem Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, Odenton, Md., interment at 1 p.m. at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, and a reception to follow in the church's Corrigan Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Hospice of the Chesapeake.
