Henry Edward Hohrein1921 ~ 2016Henry Edward Hohrein passed away on October 2, 2016, at a local care facility of natural causes. Edward was born on March 3, 1921, in O'Fallon, IL to Henry and Estella Mary (Hemmer) Hohrein. He was one of seven children. Ed had a tough upbringing with his mother dying at a young age and being put in an orphanage. But it seemed to have only made him stronger. He married his soul mate, Delores Pearl Schmiskie, in September of 1942 and joined the military shortly after. Ed was in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 and served as an Aviation Cadet. After his Honorable Discharge, he and Delores moved from Illinois to a new frontier for them; Idaho. This place embodied all the beauty and western culture of the American west that Ed thirsted for. They raised four children in their home in Boise. Ed began a career in the commercial construction industry that spanned the next forty years. He worked as a carpenter, foreman, superintendent, and part owner of his own construction company. He was involved in many projects like: the Flaming Gorge Dam, Luck Peak Dam, Channel 7 news studio, Mt Home Air Force building, and a Veteran Hospital renovation, only to name a few. He proudly worked for the State of Idaho as a Building Inspector with his largest project being the Pavilion on the BSU campus. Ed was a leader and never a follower. He was self-taught and self-made. With the help of his very devoted wife, they built a life of exploration and adventure in Idaho. They camped, fished, hunted, rock-hounded, photographed, and breathed in all of the mountain and desert air they could. Ed read and researched any interest he had, like photography and photo development in his own lab or being a gunsmith until he became proficient. He was one of the three men who began the EE-DA-HOW LONG RIFLES gun club. He could repair or create most anything with wood and metal. He even built a cabin in the mountains with his family. All of this and more Ed accomplished even while pursuing his career and helping raise a family. His energy and thirst for knowledge is inspiring to all that know him well.Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Delores, and three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his children: Tonya Hohrein-Flick (Todd), Daniel Hohrein (Dawn), John Hohrein, Ed Hohrein Jr. (Diane), seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Edward will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery with his devoted wife, Delores. Remembrances may be left for the family at
