Herbert C Redden IIMemphis, TNHerbert C. Redden II (69) of Memphis TN died on Friday, December 9, 2016. Redden was born on August 13, 1947 and attended Geeter High School as a child. In 1969, he united in marriage with F. Jean Redden and to this union, they have three children (Floresa, Jeanine, and Herbert III) as well as, three grandchildren (Victoria, Loren, and Ross). He earned an Associate's degree from Southwest Community College, a Bachelor's from Lemoyne College, a Master's from the University of Arkansas and he served three tours in the Executive Fire Officer's program at the National Fire Academy. Redden dedicated his life to firefighting and civil service with the Memphis Fire Department; and the Dayton Fire Department, where he was the first African American to hold this level of authority. A dedicated family man, Redden was a mentor; and was very instrumental in assisting others in becoming firefighters, and with navigating through the promotional process. Funeral services will be held on December 16, 2016 at Middle Baptist Church, 801 Whitehaven Ln. Visitation is scheduled from 10am-12pm, with the funeral immediately following. The burial will commence at the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery on Monday, December 19th at 2pm. The memorial service is organized by N.J. Ford Funeral Home on South Parkway. Memorial donations may be made to the Fire Museum of Memphis in honor of Herbert C. Redden II.
