DARRAH Herbert Joseph Darrah, age 92, of Orange Park, FL, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2016. Herb was born on November 9, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Herbert S. Darrah and Delia Conroy Darrah. Herb graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis and was a member of the track team. He immediately enlisted and served in the
United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946 and earned the rank of Sergeant. During that time, he met the love of his life, Mary Eugenia Moore and they married on November 2, 1944. They would spend 41 years together until her death on May 24, 1985. Herb attended Mercer University in Macon, GA then transferred to Butler University in Indianapolis where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Accounting. He earned his CPA designation and also became a member of the Advanced Institute of CPA's. He worked for the Davis Family at DDI Inc. for 25 years and retired in 1986. Herb was a devout Catholic and member of St. Catherine's Church for many years. Herb enjoyed his long term membership to the Dye-Clay YMCA and participated in the Silver Sneakers program where he got involved in reading to the Daystar members. He has resided at Wyndham Lakes for the past 5 years and made many friends. Papa loved his family and made sure they were always taken care of. Herb is survived by his children, Kathy Cummings (Rusty) and Don Darrah; his grandchildren: Travis (Jessica) Cummings, Todd (Carrie) Cummings and Christopher Darrah; and his great-grandchildren: Beckham, Fletcher and Hattie Cummings. A viewing will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of Everlasting Life. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the Orange Park Dye-Clay YMCA in his name.
