Herbert L. Shevers Sr. was born to Herbert & Ianthe Collins Shevers in Jamaica, British West Indies on May 10th, 1932.
Upon graduating from high school, Herbert enlisted in the Air Force and later that year married the love of his life Lillian Washington on December 25th, 1952. After he received an honorable discharge from the Air Force he joined the NYPD police force and served 20 years as a dedicated police officer. He then went into the postal service as a postmaster and volunteered as a firefighter at Park Ave fire station and was retired fully in 1994.
Herbert and Lillian shared 69 years of life together and during the time had 3 children Herbert Jr, Terrence and Bryan Shevers. He was well-known as “Uncle Herb” to family and friends.
Herbert’s role as a loving, caring and supportive father/grandfather ceased on February 23,2023, he peacefully transitioned after a life well lived. He was a devout Catholic and returned to the Lord with the same pure heart that he was sent with on his earthly journey. He will forever leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of countless family members, friends and those who had the pleasure of interacting with him throughout the years.
Herbert was proceed in death by his parents, Herbert and Ianthe Shevers, son, Herbert L. Shevers Jr., sister Eleanor Robinson and wife Lillian Shevers. He leaves to forever cherish his memory two sons, Terrence (Jayphine) and Bryan Shevers; grandchildren, Herbert III, Brandon, Nadja and Terrence and countless nieces and nephews and a host of other family members, friends and loved ones.
