Mr. Herbert Lee Collins Sr. (a.k.a. “Herb”) 83, of Call Texas, passed away Saturday July 25, 2020 at Phoenix VA HealthCare System Hospital.
He was born at home on April 21, 1937 to the late Charlie Collins Sr. and Doshia Collins. At the young age of 3 months, Herbert was baptized at St. Paul CME Church. Herbert was a graduate of Call County Hill School. After high school, he attended Galveston Chenille Business School. He later enlisted into the United States Navy and was assigned to the destroyer ship USS McCaffery. He received an honorable discharge.
Herbert loved to bake. He later in life went to culinary school for baking and eventually started his own baking business named “Too Sweet Cupcakes”. He made the best desserts. He also had a love for foreign automobiles and was known to always be well dressed. He would take his youngest son to car shows every weekend. He loved spending time when he could with his grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit.
Herbert is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years Diane L Collins, Ten children, Blanch Jackson (Toni), Janet Jackson, Sterling Collins (Vemca), Paula Collins, Herbert G. Collins (Gloria), Antoinette Collins, Gloria Simmons, ReSjohn Anderson, Herbert J. Collins (Pamela) and Joseph Collins (Natasha). Four step- children. Derrence White, Damont White (Rozelle), Deshaun White and Devon White. Two siblings, Vivianee Collins-Watts and Gloria Collins-Moore. A legacy of 45 Grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Bessie Collins-Loftin and two brothers, Percy Collins and Charlie Collins, Jr.
