AUBURN — Herby "Herb" Schwartz, 76, passed away Sept. 7, 2014, at his home in Auburn. Herb was born on Christmas Eve in 1937, to Clinton and Lela (Shoudel) Schwartz. They preceded him in death along with a brother, Captain Davey Schwartz USAF and a sister, Norma Jean Bowmar. Herb graduated from Auburn High School with the infamous class of 1955. He honorably served in the United States Navy from June 1955 to December 1958. He attended IPFW in Fort Wayne and Dana University in Toledo, Ohio. He retired from Dana/Eaton Corp. in 1999 with more than 40 years of service. After retirement he worked for Bridgewater Golf Course and the Sprinkling Can. On October 8, 1960, he married Carolyn Sue Myers. She survives in Auburn along with a son, Andrew (Jeanne) Schwartz of Greenwood; a grandson Kyle, a student at the University of Indianapolis; and a stepgrandson Ben Morgan, a student at Center Grove High School. Also surviving are a sister, Loretta Blevins of Auburn, a sister Patsy Harris of Auburn, and a brother Dennis Schwartz of Lakeland, Tennessee. Herb survived prostate cancer, 11 angioplasty procedures, heart disease, but succumbed to the effects of pancreatic cancer. Herb was an avid Cleveland Indian fan, Indiana University fan, and enjoyed playing golf. Scoring a hole in one at Deertrack Golf Course and also shooting his age (72 at the time) at Bridgewater East Golf Club were some of his highlights. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn with military graveside services conducted by the United States Navy. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
