RACINE - Herodia Lightle, AGE 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Manor Care in Kenosha, WI under the comforting care of Heartland Hospice. She was born on May 16, 1925, in Shuqualak, MS. Herodia was the seventh of nine offspring born to James and Lucreasy (nee Enge) Goodwin. In 1950, in Murphysboro, IL she married the love of her life, Severe Lightle. She was a devoted wife and this union prospered for fifty-three years. Herodia and Severe moved to Racine in 1956. She was employed by and retired from the Corner House Restaurant in 1999. Herodia joined St. Paul Baptist Church in 1956 and became a faithful and dedicated member. She was also a committed member of Ruth Circle. Herodia had a passion for bowling and bowled in many leagues over the years and was an active member of the Senior Bowling League until recently. Herodia also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking. She was truly amazing. Loving, stubborn, opinionated, witty and accepting are just a few words that describe her. She had a firm hand, a sound mind toward decision making, was a loyal, unbiased friend and had a heart of gold. She will be missed by her surviving sisters, Mary (Grover) Thomas of Racine, Lena Goodwin of St. Louis, MO, Rosie Robinson of Murphysboro, IL; stepdaughter, Frances (Lawrence) Logan of West Port, MA; step granddaughters, Rita Logan of Evanston, IL and Laurie (Sam) Brayshaw of Sante Fe, New Mexico; special sister-in-law, Marie Goodwin of St. Louis, MO. Herodia was a dear and loving aunt to four generations of nieces and nephews who were the recipients of her firm guidance and love. She was preceded in death by parents; husband; four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1123 Center Street on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Reids New Golden Gate Funeral Home, 1910 Taylor Avenue Racine, WI 262-632-7300.
