HIAWATHA GILES STANSBERRY 2nd born child of Nathaniel Stansberry Jr. and the late Mary Loveann Stansberry, born on August 28, 1951, in Norfolk, Virginia. He peacefully departed this life in his sleep on February 14, 2019.
Hiawatha accepted Christ at an early age where he joined Gethsemane Baptist Church. He attended Baltimore City Public Schools graduating from Forest Park High School. Hiawatha later became a Marine and served in the Vietnam War. He was employed for nearly 30 years with General Motors where he retired.
Hiawatha was a devoted husband to Marcella Stansberry whom he united in marriage on July 5, 1977. "Hi" as he was affectionately called, loved family time, going to the beach, bowling, dancing, and car auctions. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinner with a good movie or a Western on the television. Hi loved attending his grandchildren’s activities, keeping him busy going to game after game as he cheered them on and following them faithfully.
One thing no one could take away from Hiawatha is his infectious smile and Cadillac that he wiped off gracefully before he stepped in it and started his day.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife Marcella; loving and devoted children, Sonia, John (Kelsharee), and Christina (Anthony); two sisters Natalie and Ruth (Bubba); two brothers Nathaniel (Mildred) and Mark (Michele); 15 grandchildren Brittany, Daryl, Torrence, Karima, Tajahna, John, Zion, Emmanuel, Abigail, Elizabeth, Jael, Phoebe-Shalom, Sarah-Naveh, Judah and Joshua; 3 great-grandchildren Egypt, Mon'et and Katelynn, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Hiawatha was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Skipwith.
