Hilda Lewis Obituary
Jun 12, 1932 - Feb 19, 2024
Hilda Fisher Lewis was born on June 12, 1932, in Hague, VA to the late
James and Lucy Johnson. On Monday, February 19th, 2024 at approximately 10:03 a.m., she transitioned from her earthy season to her eternal season with the Heavenly Father.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Walter W. Lewis, Sr. on December 31, 1960. In addition, she was predeceased by her two sons: Walter W. Lewis, Jr. and Harvey R Carey, Sr; four Sisters: Martha Lee, Ethel Barnes, Evelyn Garner and Laura Veney; four Brothers: David Fisher, Leon Fisher, James (Jack) Johnson, and Samuel (Sam) Johnson.
Hilda received her education through the Westmoreland County School System. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Potomac Baptist Church at an early age. She remained a faithful member until her health declined. She worked diligently for years as a cook and assembly line employee. She read the Bible religiously; her favorite scripture was Psalm 27 which she recited in its entirety at one of Potomac Church services at age 84; God’s Blessing, His Grace and Mercy! She also enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to gospel music and radio ministries, and watching the Commanders football games and soap operas. Subsequently, Gardening was her specialty. She always maintained an immaculate lawn exhibiting her gorgeous flowers.
Hilda was the most wonderful gift from God to her adoring children, other family members and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother. She had this special walk, similar to that of a model, to let those watching know that she had everything under control. She was always in the mirror making sure everything was in order until several months ago; we named her “Ms. Fashionista.” She was loquacious, talked to everyone she met whether she knew them or not. She essentially loved people and they loved her. She always exhibited compassion and empathy to everyone she met and always left a lasting impression. We offer eternal thanks to God for blessing us with such a kind and loving Mom, friend, etc.
Cherishing her lovely memories are three Daughters: Gladys Jones (Paul, deceased), Barbara Green (Timothy, deceased), and Patricia Pierce (Sterling); one Son, Joseph Lewis (Pearl); one Sister, Helen Tate (George, deceased); one Daughter-in-Law, Trithenia Carey (Harvey Deceased); eighteen Grandchildren: Carita Tinsley (Joseph); Wandre’ Brown (Latissa); Alicia Pierce; Sterling Pierce, Jr. (Melanie); Joseph Baylor; Cassandra Wise; D’Ante Turner; Amanda Thompson; Eric Tanner (Monique); Harvette Barnes (Derrick); Harvey Carey, Jr. (Shanita); Brandon Carey (Crystal) and Brianna Vaughns (Shaun); Sharon Newman (Stanley); Satonia Sampson (Leonard); Otis Fisher; Douglas Jarman (Tina); Michael Jarman; and Jermaine Gould; Melissa & Malinda Brown; forty-nine Great Grandchildren and ten Great Great Grandchildren; Adopted Daughters: Marie Gaskins, Martha (Jean) Lee, Colleen Davis, Leola McDowney and Patricia (Patty) Smith; Grand Daughter: Miss Tammi Corbin; Adopted Sons: Antonia (Tony) Green, Pastor Frank Kelly, Charles McDowney, and Larry Johnson; Sisters: Martha Newman and Lavada Payne and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
Homegoing Services for Hilda Lewis, will be held on Thursday, February 29th at Noon in the sanctuary of the Potomac Baptist Church, 6099 Nomini Hall Road, Hague, Virginia.
