Hilda Beatrice Hopkins "aka Boots", the daughter of the late Robie and Victoria Butler was born on January 27th, 1926 in Coleman's Corner, MD. She was peacefully called home Wednesday December 4th, 2019 at Univerisity of Maryland Chester River Hospital with her family by her side. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband Allie Ringgold Gilbert, Sr, and William Thomas Hopkins whom she married July 14th, 1980.  She's preceded in death by sisters Sudonia Holland, Ann Butler, Jane Butler, Elizabeth Harris. As well as two Robie Butler, Jr. and Charles "Delmus" Butler.

Hilda received her education at Coleman's Elementary and Henry Highland Garnet High School. Hilda worked faithfully for several famillies throughout Kent County which included the Gould Family of Kennedyville for many years. A long time member of Janes United Methodist Church. As well active with the Elks Lodge. Hilda was actively involved with the Chestertown community her whole life. She is especially proud of being an integral part of the creation of Wilmer Park. Hilda lead the charge for a positive place for friends and family to gather on the waterfront. She is an outgoing member of the community who loves to talk to anyone passing by her home on Front Street. She is a diligent neighbor who has been known for policing the street, earning her the nickname “The Mayor of Front Street.” Hilda loves to talk about the history of Chestertown, especially Front Street and its houses.  In addition to all the folks who know her smiling face and friendly conversation, she also has a variety of four-legged friends, who lead their owners down to Hilda’s gate and stop at her mailbox because they know that Hilda always has a treat for them.

She is survived by her loving children Mary Hynson, Sudonia Gilbert, and Wendy Gilbert all of Chestertown,MD. Son Allie Ringgold Gilbert,Jr. of Las Vegas, NV,  Henry Gilbert(Andrea) of Dover, DE. Step-children Thomas Hopkins, Roger Hopkins, Patricia Hopkins, and Linda Hopkins. Eleven grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. A host of neices, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation Margaret Ann Gould Cummings , and sister Mary Gould Woody.
