Horace K. Cartwright, Sr.1921 - 2015Horace K. Cartwright, Sr., 94, of Pleasant Prairie passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at Brookside Care Center. Horace was born on Jan. 28, 1921, in Booneville, Miss., to George and Jessie (Billingsley) Cartwright. He worked as a cotton farmer in Booneville and for factories in Mississippi, Memphis, Tenn., and Illinois. He was a custodian at Zion-Benton High School for eight years and worked commercial construction for many years. Horace enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served as a radio operator. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and American Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Horace married Marie Long on Sept. 6, 1946, in Boonville, Miss. He was a member of American Legion Post #21. Horace was a simple man who enjoyed working in his yard, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading, cooking and playing the harmonica. His greatest joy was being a husband, father and grandfather.He was preceded in death by, his parents; his wife, Marie in 2008; a son-in-law, Eugene Vincent in 2002; and seven siblings, Lundy, Ivey, William, Florence, Hester, George and Thomas.Horace is survived by, two children, Horace (Cheyrill) Cartwright and Monica Vincent, both of Pleasant Prairie; six grandchildren, Eugene, Jeffrey, Lillian, Ami, Emmett and Emily; five step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Maureen Carey; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service for Horace will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home.
