Howard D. LueninghoenerNew AugustaHoward Duane Lueninghoener was born on January 15, 1934 in Onawa, Iowa. He passed away on April 17, 2017 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was 83. Services will be Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of New Augusta, followed by burial in Buck Creek Memorial Cemetery in Richton.Howard graduated high school in 1952 and joined the U.S. Army in November 1952. He served his country during the Korean Conflict. Howard was part of the 204th Field Artillery Unit operating on the 38th Parallel near the ImJin River, north of Seoul, South Korea. He obtained the rank of Corporal and earned the Korean Service Medal, the United National Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, before being honorably discharged in 1955.Upon his return home, he had a number of jobs before working for the State of Colorado Department of Highways. He retired in 1989. During his retirement, Howard continued to work on small engines out of his home. He moved to New Augusta, Mississippi in 1995. He was a Member of the First Baptist Church of New Augusta.Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Archie H. and Lola Lamb Lueninghoener, a sister, Lora Lueninghoener Bowerman, and his wife, Doris Smith Lueninghoener. Howard is survived by his son Dennis (Sandra) Lueninghoener of McHenry, MS and their two children, Dennis Jr. (Crystal) and Aaron (Wen); a son, Brian (Melissa) Lueninghoener of Oklahoma City, OK and their three children, Seth (Resmi), Reese, and Dalilah; a daughter, Vickie (Ryan) Cocklin of Oklahoma City, Ok and their two children, Sagen and Eli; a biological daughter (adopted by her maternal grandparents) Linda Feola-Jung of Gilcrest, CO, and her two children Jennifer and Justin; and two great-grandchildren (with another one due in September). Howard will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
