Baenen, Howard JamesHoward James Baenen, 93, Green Bay, died peacefully Friday, November 18, 2016 at his home. He was born on July 25, 1923, to Edward H. and Emma S. (Paulson) Baenen in Bay Settlement which is where he grew up.After graduating from Green Bay East High School, Howard began his career as an engineer at Northwest Engineering. He operated a television repair business out of his home. Howard retired in 1980. He was united in marriage to Valerie Rose Kuecker in 1950 at St. Willebrord Catholic Church. They enjoyed many years together until her death on July 7, 1973. On July 25, 2003, he wed Mary Matzke at St. Agnes Catholic Church.During his retirement, Howard volunteered at the N.E.W. Zoo, focusing on woodworking and the holiday light display. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and bowling - once bowling a 300 game. Howard was a member of St. Agnes Parish for over 60 years. H never missed a Packer game and went to the Ice Bowl (really).Howard is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Matzke; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Nancy Rose Baenen and her husband David Dick, Raleigh, NC; Sandra Ann "Sandy" Baenen, Tubac, AZ; Patt Grace Baenen and her husband, Peter Tapscott, Portola Valley, CA; three granddaughters, Rebecca (Michael) Cobbledick, Emily Baenen, Tessa Tapscott; two grandsons, Ben Matzke and Cameron Matzke; great-grandson, Michael Thomas Cobbledick; brother, Walter "Wally" Baenen; four stepchildren, Karl (Jill) Matzke, Paul Matzke, Jean Matzke and Peter Matzke; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Valerie; his parents and nine siblings.Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Monday at the church with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
