OELWEIN - Howard Lee Ohl, 88, of Oelwein and formerly of Evansdale and LaPorte City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at Grandview HealthCare Center in Oelwein. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Fairbank Cemetery. The Geilenfeld Funeral Home is assisting the family. For condolences, please visit www.geilenfeldfh.com.Howard was born on June 28, 1928 in Fairbank to parents Marvin and Edna (Manross) Ohl. He attended school in Littleton. Howard served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper in the Airborne Division. Howard was a chef and truck driver. Following retirement, he transported Amish. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved going to casinos and playing the lottery. Howard loved his family, especially teasing his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.Left to celebrate Howard's life are his sisters, Darlyn Streit of Oelwein, Norma Strempke of Independence, Vivian Leyh of Oelwein and Marlys Nissen of Waterloo; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lucille Hill; brothers-in-law, Robert "Bud" Streit, Clifford Strempke and Rugene Leyh.
