Mr. Hughie Galbreath Sr., 88, of 842 Horseshoe Road in Rockingham, N.C., passed away on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at his home.
He was born on March 8, 1925 to the late Robert and Lucy Jones Galbreath.
He was a member of Greater Diggs Chapel AME Zion church where he served as trustee, steward and treasurer. He served four years in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune and Guam. He worked for CSX Railroad for 27 years after Richmond County Solid Waste for 15 years.
Surviving are wife of 70 years, Glennie Reak Galbreath; three sons, Hughie Galbreath Jr. (Rowena) of Aberdeen, N.J., James Arthur Short (Carrie) and Keith Andre Ellerbe (Cindy); one daughter, Debra G. Morman (Lloyd) of Rockingham; five brothers, Joshua (Louise) of Marston, Frank McRae Jr. (Ada) of Philadelphia, Pa., Leon McRae of Camden, Alfred McRae of Richmond, Va. and James Galbreath (Mary) of Willingboro, N.J.; one sister Gertrude Galbreath Gould of Camdan; and 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Nelson Funeral Home in Rockingham.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Greater Diggs AME Zion Church with the Rev. Garry Little officiating. The burial will be at the church cemetery.
