Ida C. Peña, 86, of Bayard, NM passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Fort Bayard Medical Center surrounded by her family. Ida was born on October 12, 1930 in Vanadium, NM to Ernestine and Alberto Chavez. She was the oldest of five children. Ida married Eloy Peña on December 22, 1951 and had six children. She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; visiting with friends and family, shopping, and cooking. She spent years preserving fruits and vegetables. Her children were fortunate to learn from watching her. Ida was an avid seamstress and made clothes for her children as they grew up. She enjoyed watching cooking programs and loved to experiment with new recipes. She looked forward to getting the opportunity for a ride to the casinos. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Ida is survived by her husband, Eloy of the family home; daughters, Evelyn P. Valdez (Jose) of Rio Rancho, NM; Yolanda Peña and companion Tony Castel De Oro of Scottsdale, AZ; Grace P. Jones (Terry) of Baton Rouge, LA and Corrina P. Rivera (Brian) of Silver City; her son, Steven of Scottsdale, AZ; six grandchildren, Clerissa, Ariel, Salina, Deandra, Justin, and Ethan; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Lucille C. Nuñez of Tucson, AZ; her brother, Pedro F. Chavez and wife Raquel of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Eloy Jr., her brothers, Alberto and Rudy Chavez. Visitation will be Friday, January 20 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be Saturday, January 21 at 10am at Infant Jesus Shrine with Father Francisco Diaz officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at Hurley cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rudy Chavez Jr. and Albert Chavez III, Emilio Figueroa Jr., Tony Figueroa, Chevo Chavira, Jose M. Valdez.
